Campaign Story

My name is Jessica. I have PCOS and anovulation which, combined, has caused me to have extremely irregular periods over the course of my fertile years. My husband and I began trying to conceive-without knowing of my issues- in late 2010/early 2011. When we didn’t get pregnant right away, we searched for answers and found a reproductive endocrinologist to take a look at us.

As it turned out, not only did I have issues, but my husband was born with CBAVD (congenital bilateral absence of the vas defrens). This issue only occurs in about 1-2% of male-factor infertility, and even more rare is only about 5 percent of those cases are NOT linked to cystic fibrosis. He was tested and was negative for CF or the carrier gene, but was still born with CBAVD and missing one of his kidneys.

These combined issues have causes us to need invitro fertilization in order to have a family. We took out loans and put ourself in debt to start the family of our dreams, as do many people for whom IVF is the only option. We were lucky to have a living son from our treatment, though we lost his twin, and we lost another set of twins in 2020.

Our son is asking for siblings. We dream of a bigger family. With your help, we may be able to make that happen!

Even if you can’t donate, sharing our story will help not only us, but you never know who else it may impact. Many people have reached out to me since sharing our story for advice, support, or just to cry with someone who understands.

Thank you!
